BEAVERS BEND RESORT PARK 2011

We got home on Nov 3,after spending 4 days in the Broken Bow Oklahoma area. The color change was not in full color but the scenery and the weather was just perfect! They even lifted the the burn ban the day after we got there, so a nice campfire was enjoyed each night. This is our little home away from home and the beauty we got to wake up to each morning.

Camping September 2011 Navarro Mills Lake

We have once again visited the Wolf Creek Park at Navarro Mills Lake. September 30 was the last day for this park until next March. Our next Trip, we will go to Oak Park or Liberty Hill as they are open year round. There were 4 brave campers this past week, us and another couple. It got a little hot during the day but the lake was like glass, perfect for our little fishing boat. A good time was had by all. Our son came down spent the day with us, we really enjoyed the company.

We are home for a week and then I guess we will be rocking along somewhere else, looking for another perfect sunset or sunrise and chasing that perfect fish. Until next time take care friends.

OUR 5 GALLON BUCKET LIGHT

I want to share our ingenious invention that we cannot live without when camping. It is our 5 gallon bucket light. We put this together and then the bucket is handy for carrying the cords etc...check it out. Danny made the wood brackets out of 1x2s and they can be strapped to a tree or a pole with a bungee cord or strap and no damage to trees. He put a hook on the end. The inside is a photographers light minus the shield and it clamps to the bucket handle, run the extension cord over to the power and it lights up the whole area. By the way we are using a compact fluorecent bulb not very high watts. We usually try to hang our light as far away as possible to draw the bugs to the light and then they are trapped down in the bucket...and that is the end of the 5 gallon bucket light story...

CAMPING AT NAVARRO MILLS WOLF CREEK

Danny running the boat at Navarro Mills Lake, gorgeous lake and park.
This was our waterfront campsite. Although the lake was 3 foot low it was really nice and no gators or mosquitoes...yeah!
That is me and the camping hounds...Jeter and Jazzie.
Jeter posing in the boat, we had fun and the dogs seemed to enjoy all the new smells and activities. We came home Friday, glad to be home but already planning our nest little escape. Danny says we went 450 miles (we took the scenic route) and wound up camping only 50 miles from home...life is so funny!

MARTIN DIES JR STATE PARK

Gosh it has been so long since we have done anything except try to stay cool, I do not even know where to start. We left Monday (Labor Day) and headed to Martin Dies Jr State park. We were impressed with the beautiful tall pines and magnolias. The campground(Magnolia Ridge) was empty except for us and a couple of others. We soon found out that the Avon Expedition bug spray really works...biting flies and swarms of mosquitoes sent us and the schnauzers inside and the swatting began. I have never seen the like of mosquitoes but they did not leave bites? The flies on the other hand bit through our clothes! Oh before i forget then there were the cute lil alligators...we tried to fish but the gators would park right beside the cork and would not move.

We decided that no fish in its right mind would come close with the gator...so fishing was over with. We are true campers so we toughed it out Monday and Tuesday night but Wednesday morning we rocked right on out of there! We must say again that this is a gorgeous park, just be mindful of the critters!

My Review

HAPPY CAMPERS IN TEXAS

By DAN from MIDLOTHIAN, TEXAS on 8/7/2011

5out of 5

WE TOOK OUR JON BOAT OUT TODAY AND IT IS VERY STABLE CONSIDERING ITS SIZE. WE USED A 5 HP OUTBOARD AND CRUISED AROUND A SMALL LAKE BEAUTIFULLY.WE HAVE A LADDER RACK ON OUR PICKUP AND AT 110 LBS WE CAN CARRY IT ON TOP AND STILL TOW OUR CAMPER. ALL IN ALL THIS IS A PERFECT FIT FOR US. I DO NOT THINK I WOULD
USE THIS BOAT IN A BUSY LAKE OR IN ROUGH WATERS, OTHER THAN THAT WE COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.

Friday Again!

Friday night, we had a great dinner of salad, garlic bread and shrimp scampi. I made a new recipe for crock pot apple crisp with vanilla blue bell, yum. It is 10 pm again, funny how that happens every night about the same time. I guess i will watch the news and again watch the weather, hot, hotter and hotter. I do not know when we will get rain but i will be outside soaking it up. Our yard is suffering, the trees are suffering, if it wasn't 100 degrees outside i would think it was winter. Tropical storm don apparently did not get my invitation to stop by my house. Well, that is life in Texas. Give me few more months and i will be complaining about a foot of snow. Humans, i guess we are never totally happy with the weather....
